Volume One, Issue Three, “Plein Air,” Visual Art

Per Adolfsen draws landscapes within walking distance from where he lives. Shrubs, stubble fields, grasslands, and the edges of the wood. These places are often overlooked. They do not seem important. But Per has a special eye for the uniqueness of these seemingly ordinary places, and he draws out these individualities either by unusual composition, for example by drawing a bush hiding behind a hillside, or by drawing very little, holding himself back, thereby allowing the emptiness of the paper to direct our attention to the most important lines in the landscapes before him. Ultimately, Per’s landscape drawings represent a new romantic movement made in the wake of the climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.
